Previously, the line-up had been drip-fed over a series of days – however, last year the full side was released all at once on Monday 7 January. However, on Sunday 5 January, a teaser post on the Fifa Twitter feed revealed that it would come “tomorrow”, on Monday 6 January.
Initially, EA Sports only confirmed that the TOTY will be announced at some point in January 2020, when player items will be released in FUT packs for a limited time. However, after the announcement of the main line-up, EA Sports revealed that there would be a community-only vote for a 12th TOTY player from the names who just missed the cut. These ballots made make up 60 per cent of the overall vote, with the rest of the votes cast by EA Sports themselves.Īlthough the wider public didn’t officially have a say in the main selection, some of the recipients of the ballot boxes – such as or Fifa community websites Futwiz and Futhead – created their own vote to give ordinary gamers the chance to influence the line-up.
